SeeProfit vs Baremetrics, ChartMogul and ProfitWell - which to pick?

A comparison of revenue analytics tools. Baremetrics, ChartMogul and ProfitWell track MRR - SeeProfit tracks real net profit after ads, fees and fixed costs.

You're looking for a tool that shows the finances of your online business and you keep running into the same names: Baremetrics, ChartMogul, ProfitWell (now Paddle Metrics). All of them are good - but at a completely different discipline than most founders assume. This comparison will help you choose deliberately.

Two different categories of tools

First, the key distinction. Subscription analytics (Baremetrics, ChartMogul, ProfitWell) answers questions about revenue: what your MRR is, how it grows, how many customers churn, what your LTV looks like. Profit analytics (SeeProfit) answers the question those tools never even ask: how much of that revenue actually stays in the business after processing fees, advertising and fixed costs.

If you run a SaaS with a sales team and investors, subscription metrics are essential. If you're a founder who wonders every month whether the business even pays for itself - you need profit first, cohorts later.

Where Baremetrics, ChartMogul and ProfitWell shine

Honestly: for subscription analytics these tools are mature and deep. Cohorts, customer segmentation, churn forecasting, failed-payment recovery - if your problem is optimising subscription revenue, pick one of them. ChartMogul consolidates multiple billing sources well, Baremetrics has a great UX, and ProfitWell offers its metrics for free within the Paddle ecosystem.

None of them, however, will tell you whether your business was profitable this month after paying for Meta Ads and hosting. That's not a flaw - it's simply a different product.

Where SeeProfit shines

SeeProfit does one thing: it tells the truth about profit. You connect Stripe with a read-only key, add ad spend and fixed charges (one-off or recurring), and the dashboard shows:

  • real net profit - revenue minus fees, ads and fixed costs, in your base currency,
  • blended ROAS - an honest return on ad spend calculated on total spend; we explain why that matters in ROAS is lying to you,
  • upcoming recurring charges - domains and subscriptions will never surprise you again,
  • multi-currency - revenue in EUR, costs in PLN and USD, all converted with daily ECB rates.

It works equally well for e-commerce and SaaS - because ad costs and processing fees eat margins in both models.

How to choose in practice

  • You run a SaaS, you're growing, you report MRR and churn to investors → ChartMogul or Baremetrics.
  • You sell through Paddle → ProfitWell/Paddle Metrics comes with the package.
  • You want to know how much you actually earn after all costsSeeProfit. These tools aren't mutually exclusive either - MRR and net profit answer different questions, which we cover in MRR is not profit.

The cheapest way to see the difference? Connect your data and compare the number you know from the Stripe Dashboard with the number SeeProfit shows. The second one tends to be sobering.
